1. WHAT IS YOGA?

Yoga is a holistic practice with roots in ancient India that focuses on enhancing your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

2. HOW IS YOGA PRACTICED?

Yoga involves physical poses called Āsanas, flowing sequences called Vinyāsas, Prāṇāyāma or breathing techniques and Dhyāna or meditative techniques that are used for building physical and mental fitness, improving breathing, for improved concentration and for stress relief and relaxation.

3. WHAT IS STRI YOGA?

Stri Yoga is a woman-focussed Yoga-based platform founded by Yogini Uma Natarajan. Its objective is to empower women with tools derived from Yoga for health and wellness. These tools are delivered through a variety of online courses.

4. HOW DOES STRI YOGA OPERATE?

Stri Yoga offers a variety of Yoga courses meant for women of all ages from kids as young as 7 years to seniors as old as 70 or more!

5. HOW QUALIFIED ARE STRI YOGA'S INSTRUCTORS?

Yogini Uma the founder of Stri Yoga underwent the Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Course from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre. This course, apart from being internationally recognized is also certified by the worldwide Yoga Alliance for the 200 hours standard for Registered Yoga Schools (RYS).

As her practice advanced, she subsequently undertook the “Yoga Siromani” Diploma and the “Yoga Acharya” Master of Yoga certification — both also from the Sivananda Centre. The Acharya course is certified by the 500 hours standard, the RYT-500.

She has backed up her training with over a decade of teaching and helping hundreds of women through their health and wellness needs.

6. WHAT COURSES DOES STRI YOGA OFFER?

Stri Yoga offers a number of courses that are broadly grouped under lifestage and need-based categories. There is also an “Intro to Yoga” category.

7. WHAT ARE LIFESTAGE-BASED COURSES?

These courses are based on the age of the participant and comprise tools that are appropriate for the lifestage of the participant.

These are —

Bālikā for pre-teens from as young as 7 years.

Kumārī for post-puberty adolescents.

Vadhū for brides and brides-to-be.

Garbhavatī, a pre-natal wellness program.

Ṛtvanta for women going through the climacteric.

and, Mātṛkā for the young at heart!

8. WHAT ARE NEED-BASED COURSES?

These courses are based on the specific needs of the participants. They include —

Aśiśu for women who are desirous of conceiving.

Asṛgdara for those with menstrual health-related issues.

Bhāmā for women who want to harness their sexual energy for healing and creativity.

Sundarī for those who want to make heads turn with their glow!

Prasūtā to help women bounce back from post-partum.

and, Sthira to help ground women amongst their many responsibilities.

10. WHAT COURSES DOES THE “INTRO TO YOGA” CATEGORY COVER?

The “Intro to Yoga” (Prastāvanā) series offers two courses –

Ārambha, an introductory course for Yoga newbies.

and, Abhyāsa, a continuing practice program for students who have completed a course and want to continue with guided practice.

11. I AM A BEGINNER. CAN I GO STRAIGHT TO ONE OF THE LIFE-STAGE BASED PROGRAMS OR NEED-BASED COURSES?

Yes.

Each of our courses takes into account your current fitness level and are tailored based on your Yoga ability or the lack of it!

But, in our experience many of our participants have surprised themselves at the ease with which they have been able to adapt to the poses or practices taught to them.

This just reiterates the prevailing belief at Stri Yoga that if a woman is equipped with just the right tools to tap into her innate reserves she will go on to surprise herself and many others!
